CannaWell offers a small range of well-crafted CBD products including oils, balms and chocolates. They aim to produce exceptional items that are of premium quality but are priced to be accessible to all.
This relaxing body balm is a blend of cannabis extract and several soothing ingredients like comfrey, menthol, eucalyptus and shea butter. It’s made with a whole plant extract that CannaWell says contains over 130 other cannabinoids. They’re extracted using low-pressure CO2 from hemp grown on organically certified farms in Europe.
When I received the balm, I was immediately impressed. Most of those I’ve tried before have arrived in a small 30ml tub, but this one comes in a large 300ml tube. This makes it easy to dispense enough each time without having to worry about running out. It’s also completely natural, suitable for vegans and free from parabens, silicon and petroleum.

Who are CannaWell?
The idea of CannaWell was conceived in 2014 and the company was founded in 2015. Since then, they’ve been finetuning their products and pioneering regulation and quality in the industry. The company director is Catherine Wilson, who is also Vice President of the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA).
CannaWell is committed to ensuring its products are of excellent quality and that the active ingredients are completely natural. Their CBD oil is certified as organic by the Organic Food Federation.
Although their balms aren’t yet certified, they’re produced with strict quality and safety control measures from organically grown hemp. CannaWell’s attention to detail and commitment to their customers has earned them an impressive reputation and helped them to grow into one of the UK’s best CBD suppliers.
3rd Party Lab Tests
All of CannaWell’s products are analysed in detail by a third-party lab; however, they don’t currently publish the results. When we spoke to CannaWell about this, they let us see copies of the certificates for their oils and this balm so that we could verify the claims made.
The results on the certificates showed the amount of CBD and CBDa clearly. They also verified that the extract contains a range of other cannabinoids, including CBDV, CBDVa, CBC, CBG and CBGa.
It’s disappointing that the lab results aren’t available for public access, but I was pleased to see that they were willing to supply them to us for the sake of this review.
Ease of use
The balm comes in a large tube and is easy to dispense whenever you need it. It has the texture of a lotion and it works best if you use it generously. I found that it’s particularly useful if you want to massage sore muscles or joints because it gives enough lubrication for you to rub the area for several minutes.
If you like to accurately apply small amounts of topical CBD, then this may not be the balm for you, but if you prefer to apply liberally, then it’s ideal. The cap to the tube closes firmly and I had no issues with leaks. However, this isn’t an item suited to use on the go; it’s more for applying to fatigued areas when you get home after a long day at work.
There aren’t any detailed directions of use on the label, but it’s one of those products that perform best when you’ve worked it out for yourself. I decided to apply it twice a day to areas of irritated skin, aching muscles or sore joints. I didn’t set specific times to apply it I just kept it hand so I could apply it whenever necessary.
CannaWell Body Balm Fragrance
The menthol and eucalyptus fragrances in this balm combine to produce something that smells like a cross between Vicks VapoRub and mouthwash. Although it’s not got the sweet scent of some CBD balms, it was still pleasant. It’s a particularly clean smell and it doesn’t stick around for hours after you’ve applied it.
Potency/ Effectiveness
I found this to be the most effective hemp balm I’ve used so far. Although, it’s hard to tell if that’s because of its ingredients or the fact that it’s easy to apply large amounts. Even though I used it fairly liberally, I was still able to use it twice a day for about three weeks before the tube ran out.
It quickly soothed rough or red areas of skin and after a few applications, the dryness didn’t return. My favourite use was to apply it to muscles that were tight and sore at the end of the day. For me, the worst areas are always my calves and the back of my neck. Spending five to ten minutes massaging the balm in gave me considerable relief and helped me relax, but it didn’t stop the aches from returning in the future.
Value for Money
I got a lot of use from this balm compared to the smaller products you can get and it gave me significant relief from several symptoms. As a result, the £34.95 price tag feels like great value; however, I have a few small concerns that need mentioning. Although I found it to be effective and obviously well made, I was put off by the fact that there is no information on exactly how much CBD it contains.
When you spend more than £30 on a body balm because it contains CBD, you want to know exactly how much you’re getting for your money. Also, with any product, it’s always better if the third-party lab tests are easily accessible so that each customer can see the results for themselves.
However, overall, this is an excellent product that will be ideal for anyone looking for relief from sore muscles and joints.
Would I Buy Again?
Yes, I would buy CannaWell CBD balm again. A little went a long way and it was very effective. Currently, this balm is number four in our best CBD balm & cream reviews article, to appear higher, I would expect a little more transparency about the amount of CBD in the bottle.
