Body and Mind Botanicals CBD Oil Review

Body and Mind Botanicals CBD Oil Review

Body and Mind Botanicals are a UK CBD brand that offers a range of natural hemp products. Everything they make is rich in CBDa, hasn’t undergone solvent extraction and is certified organic by the UK Soil Association. Currently, they stock cold-pressed CBD oil, cannabis chocolate and their award-winning hemp tea. For the last twelve days, I’ve been using their 500mg (5%) cold-pressed cannabis oil.

In the 10ml bottle, you get 90% hemp seed oil and 10% Cannabis Sativa L. extract. According to the bottle, the extract contains 300mg of CBDa (the precursor to CBD ) and 200mg of CBD. This is a full-spectrum, whole-plant extract packed with cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and plant nutrients.

When I first looked at the oil, I could immediately tell that it was packed with plant particles because it’s very dark brown in colour. It’s suitable for vegans and has been approved by the Vegetarian Society. On the box that the bottle comes in, you can immediately see the EU Organic leaf logo and the UK Soil Association logo. These can only be displayed if the products are fully certified as organic.

Per bottle, there are 240 drops, each containing approximately 2mg of CBDa/CBD. I decided to take ten drops in the morning and ten in the evening to give me 40mg CBDa/CBD daily.

Who are Body and Mind Botanicals?

Body and Mind Botanicals was created by business partners Michael Fitzgerald and Martin Kaprockyj. Their aim was to “produce high quality, full-spectrum cannabis products and introduce people to all their wonderful benefits”. They started selling their CBD oils to UK customers in February 2018 and now their products can be found in over 600 stores, including branches of Grape Tree, Partridges of London and Daylesford Organics.

They believe that keeping beneficial hemp compounds in their natural state provides the best results. To achieve this, they’ve developed their own techniques to obtain a full-spectrum extract from raw hemp plants. As a result, their products contain a mixture of CBDa and CBD, whereas some brands only focus on CBD.

To ensure that everything they produce meets their strict quality standards, they do everything from choosing the seeds and working in partnership with experienced cannabis farmers to designing their packaging for maximum freshness and convenience.

3rd Party Lab TestsBody and Mind Botanicals Lab Report

Body and Mind Botanicals have published one example of third-party lab results for this product. It’s easily accessible from the product page and includes a profile of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. I was impressed with the level of detail; the only information they haven’t included is a screening of potential contaminants.

The analysis detected several cannabinoids, including CBD, CBDa, CBG, CBC and CBGa. No THC was detected, demonstrating that it is less than the lowest value to analysis can reach, which is 0.2%. The equipment wasn’t sensitive enough to confirm if the sample conformed to the UK legal limit of 1mg THC per container which is much lower than 0.2% in a 10ml bottle.

Surprisingly there is 456mg of CBD and 33.75mg of CBDa which is not the same as the 300mg CBDa and 200mg CBD stated on the label. However, some people may view this as a preferable ratio.Body and Mind Botanicals Terpenes Report

Traces of 17 terpenes were detected, including ß-caryophyllene, myrcene, ß-sitosterol, terpinolene and pinene. Six flavonoids were present: quercetin, apigenin, flavonone, caffeic acid, catechin and gallic acid.

I did not score this oil any higher because the lab results aren’t sensitive enough to verify that it contains less than 1mg THC.

Update – When I checked on 14/04/2022 the lab results were no longer published on the Body and Mind Botanicals Website.

Ease of Use

The bottle is relatively easy to use, it comes with a bulb-tipped dropper and I didn’t have any problem with leaks. I used a mirror to count out the drops under my tongue because there are no marks on the dropper for easy measurements. There’s no child-safe cap which I think is a necessity for all food supplement products.

There are some detailed instructions on the box which are simple to follow. All in all, it’s a basic bottle with no frills or extra features. It works well but could definitely be improved.

Body and Mind Botanicals CBD Oil Taste

This is, without doubt, the strongest-tasting oil I’ve used. Even if you hold it under your tongue, you’ll likely find the intense bitterness overpowering. When you swallow it, there’s a sharpness to it that left my throat feeling sore for a couple of minutes afterwards. I recommend having some water on hand to wash away the flavour after this one.

Potency/ EffectivenessBody and Mind Botanicals Cannabis Oil Colour

Despite their intense flavour, whole plant oils like this one are nearly always my favourites because they’re usually so effective; this was no exception. For an hour two following each use, I experienced a noticeable sense of relaxation. During the time I took it, I experienced fewer tension headaches than usual, deeper sleep and reduced anxiety. Although this could have been down to other factors, I feel sure that a large amount can be attributed to this potent oil.

Value for Money

A 10ml bottle of 500mg CBDa/CBD oil is £34.99. This makes it considerably cheaper than premium oils like Bud & Tender and CannaWell but still relatively expensive compared to competitive budget options like CBD Brothers Blue Edition and Simply CBD.

As of 2022, a 500mg bottle is now £19.99 and a 1000mg bottle is £34.99. As a result this product now represents excellent value for money.

When you factor in that this is an organically certified oil with detailed third-party lab results and an impressive range of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids, it offers excellent value. If you can get past the intense flavour, this is a potent, natural oil that I am happy to recommend.

Would I Buy it Again?

Yes, I would buy this oil again. The price is excellent, the oil is certified organic and I found it to be very effective. As a result, it scores highly enough to be included in our best UK CBD oils article where the bar is set very high. Also, we consider it to be one of the best products in our organic CBD oil reviews article.

If what you seek is a high-strength oil, at 5% it is a long way off the threshold of 25% to be included in our list of the strongest CBD oils available in the UK.

Body and Mind Botanicals Cannabis Oil Review
Overall
Body and Mind Botanicals have produced a foul-tasting yet wonderfully potent oil. It’s certified organic by the UK Soil Association and contains a whole plant extract in hemp seed oil. The third-party lab results detected several cannabinoids and numerous terpenes and flavonoids. There was some difference in the ratio of CBD to CBDa shown on the bottle to that on the lab results, but the total was still over the advertised 500mg total.
